Seeking Purpose

As 2012 unfolds we need to be reminded that God wants us to be about His business and purposes. We need to look no further than God’s Word to find out what we should and should not be doing. In 1 Samuel 3:1-18 we see the story of a young boy who “ministered before the Lord under Eli the priest.” One night the Lord called out to Samuel, and after the third time he answered God who told him what was to come.

The problems that are within the church and the country today were present in Samuel’s time. The Word is not preached; “the Word of the Lord was rare”. Few are seeking Him; “there were not many visions”. Church is business as usual; “lying down in his usual place”. The Voice of God is not understood; “The Word of the Lord had not been revealed.”

Let us stand firm on the Word of God, the truth, and apply it to every aspect of our lives. Few are seeking because we have lost the passion and conviction of sharing the Gospel. The “Good News” is still the greatest news anyone could ever hear, and we have been commissioned to carry to all the corners of the world. That includes our families, neighbors, co-workers, students, and friends. We must examine how we are trying to accomplish God’s purposes. We need to take, “We’ve never done it that way” out of our vocabulary. We must seek Him through prayer, study of His Word, and worship. Amen?

Be wise today and be about His purposes.
