Leakage

This past week we've looked at the topic of choices, and how we need to choose God first. We've also seen how Judah turned their backs on the God of Israel and focused on other gods.

God speaks in Jeremiah 2:13; “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

God spells it out. Here are the two most grievous sins against Him. There will be repercussions from their choices. They turned away from the God who created, sustained, and provided for them all of their existence. They tried to imitate Him by providing for themselves. He uses the illustration here of not relying on streams and rain to quench your thirst, but to dig a hole (cistern) and gather water for themselves.

This is all about control. The nation decided they wanted to control their own destiny. The problem with this idea (and their cisterns) is that will not work (leakage).

How sad it is when we try to be god. No one has ever succeeded and no one ever will. I had a huge biker guy confront me at a wedding one time about this issue. He said he didn't need church or it's God. He was his own god! In a moment of divine wisdom I asked how that was working for him. He stopped, paused, hung his head, and with a tear in his eye he responded, "Not very good".

Praise God I was blessed to share with him that God loved him so much that He died for him. He accepted this Good News, prayed to ask Jesus in his life, and I had the honor to baptize him. This big man is now on fire for God.

Be wise today and always - don't settle for any counterfeit keep focus on the One and True God.
