Psalm
126 is a song
that reminds us to rejoice at the things God does in our lives, and that
because of God, those who weep will shout with joy.
How should we sing according to this
Psalm?
1.
We should sing with Joy. When the Lord restored the
fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. 2 Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
2.
We should sing to Honor God. Then it was said among
the nations, “The Lord has done great things
for them.” 3 The Lord has done great things for us, and we are
filled with joy.
3. We should sing praises for His Restoration. 4 Restore our fortunes, Lord, like streams in the Negev.5 Those who sow
with tears will
reap with songs of joy.
6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
Restore is
referring to either complete the repatriation of
exiles, or fully restore the security and prosperity of former times. An
apt metaphorical portrayal of the joy already experienced, and the joy
anticipated. with tears, and weeping.
Even when sowing is accompanied by trouble or sorrow, harvest brings joy.
Sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him. – Psalm 98:1
