We see in Luke 2:22-24 the baby Jesus being presented
in the Temple
22 When the time came for the
purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to
Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the
Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), 24 and to offer
a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of
doves or two young pigeons.”
The example being set here is one of wisdom. We are
told throughout the Bible to fear the Lord and be obedient. Out of respect and
willingness to do things God’s way Mary and Joseph went to the temple with
their firstborn.
We need to approach the Lord with pure hearts and
sacrificial lives. 1 Corinthians tells us to present our bodies as living
sacrifices. Christmas may be over, but
we still need to let others see Christ in us.
Amen?
