Be a Tree

I remember how hard it was to earn my Nature merit badge when I was in Boy Scouts. My Counselor was a real stickler about learning trees by their leaf, bark, fruit, shape, and where they grew. It took me almost a year but when I was finished I knew my trees. Here we are almost 40 years later and I still know a lot about trees! 

One thing I remember every time I see a willow or sycamore is that there must be water nearby. They require a constant supply. These trees helped show pioneers where to dig wells. David tells us that a Godly person is like those trees.

If you stay connected with Jesus, the Living water, you will remain strong, prosperous, and fruitful. 

Blessed is the one

    who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

    or sit in the company of mockers,

but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,

    and who meditates on his law day and night.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

    which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

    whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-4

What Did You Say?

The explosion of social media shows us how people are wired. We were made for community - made for sharing life events. It's proved out every second on FB, Twitter, Instagram, blogs, etc.. We are quick to share funny pictures, trip photos, inspiring messages, videos, and recipes. When you really think about it, What is the most important thing you can share?

Let's be quick to share Jesus with  the world around us today and everyday. It could make an eternal difference to someone.

 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” - Romans 1:16-17

World Speak

Throughout God's Word we take comfort from the words about not being afraid and being strong - God is always with us. This is true but God enables us courage to be ready to take a (firm) stand about matters of faith. More simplistically, always be ready to think, speak, and share the truth of God. 

When you are prepared to take action you will always be more successful. There is nothing more important than your life in Christ.

What does the world hear when you speak?

Practice today putting God's Word in to practice. You will be glad you did.

Priorities

Sunday and going to church used to be synonymous in American culture. Communities kept the Sabbath separate from the busyness of the week's activities. We made our commitment to go to church a priority. Priorities guide your day - things that are most important are what we do. What place has God had in your day so far?

The Bible tells us that everyone eventually will worship and give God glory. When we make our "to do" lists let's make sure our focus stays on Him. Amen?

Expectations

It is always good to know what is expected in a relationship. The Christian life is not about religion but relationship. Do you know what God expects of you? 

Jesus demonstrated what "being good" is all about. Use Him as your example on how to grow in your relationship with God. Spend time with Him everyday and grow in your faith.

  One thing I ask of the LORD,  this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. Psalm 27:4 

Always desire to be in His presence.

Smile on His Face

Jesus refers to people coming to Him "as little children". Today's verse tells us why. We must look to Him for guidance, instruction, and direction. The great news is that He will never leave us or ignore us.

I was recently blessed to spend time with my grandchildren in Ohio. Kids are great, they love showing you their "new" skills. Even when they are a little far off they turn around and make sure you are watching them. It gives them a sense of safety and encouragement.

Today remember God's watching you. Put a smile on His face as you serve Him.

Day of Prayer

Today is the National Day of Prayer. People in my town meet at the train station and pray for an hour. Rain or shine we are praying. Jim Elliot said, “God is still on His throne, we’re still His footstool, and there’s only a knee’s distance between!”

We are called to be people of prayer and to take it seriously. 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us - If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Spend time today praying for your country, state, community, church, family, and self.
