Responding to Sorrow

Isaiah 53:4 says "Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows..."

We surely have had our share of grief recently and are all horrified by massacre that took place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday. We are heartsick, and grieved beyond words at this unspeakable evil. We cannot fathom the depth of the grief of the families who lost their children and their loved ones. For this to happen right before Christmas makes this a burden difficult to bear for those who have been directly affected.

May all of us, who ourselves are stricken with grief over this great atrocity, cling tight to Advent's message - that God came to us lovingly through a son to bring light into the darkness of humanity.

It is interesting (and appropriate) to hear the media refer to act as evil. Because if there is evil then there has to be good (so we know what evil is). Believers in Christ know that God is good, and He calls His people to prayer during time of national crisis.

2 Chronicles 7:14-15 - if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

Be wise today and always – seek God’s face.
