One
definition of the word "odd" is Deviating from what is
ordinary, usual, or expected; strange, different, or peculiar. I think
that is a good description of a Christ follower. If we are like
everybody else then how can we make a difference for Jesus?
Jesus in Matthew 5:12-16 describes Christians
like this, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its
saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything,
except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the
light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people
light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it
gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way,
let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and
glorify your Father in heaven.
Scripture tells us that we are different - we are not from this
world but just passing through. It is on this passing through journey called
life that we are to make a difference in the world. We are to bring the truth
of God out of the darkness and in to the light. We are not to be ashamed of the
Gospel, and need to apply it to our lives.
