In our Answers in Genesis class we recently considered this Scripture
concerning the accuracy of the New Testament. “This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who
has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. Now there are also many other
things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the
world itself could not contain the books that would be written.” John 21:24–25 Witnesses to the events, through the power
of the Holy Spirit, could write accurately of what had happened even though
some time had passed.
We also learned about what
belongs in the New Testament, and that there are Five Standards.
Standard #1: The book or letter must be written
by an apostle or under the direction of an apostle.
Standard #2: The
writings must speak with the voice of authority as the Word of God and not the
words of men.
Standard #3: The writings must have been used from the earliest of
times.
Standard #4: Most of the early churches
should have accepted these writings as the New Testament canon.
Standard #5: The writings must conform to what the church taught.
