Pits

1 John 1:8 says: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us”. What this is saying that if someone came before God and claimed that he had not sinned recently then he would be deceiving himself & God’s truth was not in him. We all sin, but God has provided a recourse to our sins.

In John 14:6, Jesus says, “ I am the Way, the Truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” That is our hope, and we have God’s promise that if we believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, that He will never leave us.

John 10:9-13, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As Scripture says Anyone who calls on Him will never be put to shame. It makes no difference if you are Jew or Gentile. The same Lord is Lord of All, and greatly blesses those who call on Him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”

When we sin if we take it to God & confess it He promises to not only forgive us, but also to purify us from all unrighteousness. So why wouldn’t we run to God & confess our sins immediately? Maybe we’re afraid, embarrassed, ashamed, or a combination of all three?

We are creating a spiritual “pit” when we do not confess our sins. We keep blowing it again and again. It is a viscous cycle that eats you up spiritually and takes you further from God. Run to God He already knows all about it. Confess your sin. He promises to forgive.

Confess and stay focused on Christ this year - stay out of the "sin pit". Amen?
