The Meaning of Life

We saw in last week’s study that Solomon corrupted his heart by: caving in to worldly pressures, focusing on processions, and didn’t put in to practice his Godly wisdom. He lost focus on what was important – an intimate relation with God. He truly was the “wisest fool” who ever lived!

Solomon decided that instead of trusting and obeying the Lord, he would rely on his own wisdom, power, riches, and fame. He put himself on the slippery slopes of disobedience and fell. This fatal mistake of relying on self took him away from God. In the later years of his life he became sad and despondent. So much so that he writes in Ecclesiastes 1:1-2 that
everything in life is meaningless!
1 The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem: 2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”
Solomon’s fall left him with these sad words -- Vanity of vanities, all is vanity, Useless, useless all is useless, and Everything is meaningless (different Bible translations).

Why would a man with so much wisdom say these words?

1.     He lost his focus
2.     He lost his moral compass
3.     He lost hope

Has life no meaning?

Maybe we need to work on what pleases God, and these things can be found.

Have a good Godly day.
