In Matthew
9:37 Jesus charged His disciples
to pray. (Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to
send out workers into his harvest field.”)
What
was Jesus’ observation? The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are
few. People desired good preaching, but there were few good preachers. There
was a great deal of work to be done, and a great deal of good likely to be
done, but there wanted hands to do it.
[1.]
It was an encouragement, that the harvest was so plentiful.
[2.]
It was a pity that the laborers should be so few. It is a sad day for the
church, when God’s work stands still, or goes slowly, because of a need for good
workers. If this happens then the laborers that there are available will to be
very busy.
Be
wise today and always – work for Jesus.
