In Season and Out of Season

I love this quote by Matthew Henry concerning Jeremiah’s call and commission: Because he had no reason to fear the wrath of men if he were faithful; for the God whom he served would protect him, and bear him out, so that they should neither sink his spirits nor drive him off from his work, should neither stop his mouth nor take away his life, till he had finished his testimony.

Two things Jeremiah (and we) must consider:
Our calling – your vocation in Christ.
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,  to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up  until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. - Ephesians 4:11-13

Our commission – sharing the Gospel with the world.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  -Matthew 28:18-20

What are some ways to bring our calling, our commission, and the church together?

God has given Jeremiah a great task. He is sent in God’s name to proclaim judgment against rebellious people. The Lord gives warnings of his judgments beforehand, so that sinners may repent and become obedient to God’s Word.

The prophet is instructed to share God’s message. All Christ followers are given the same instructions; Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. - 2 Timothy 4:2

Be wise today and always - be ready to carry out your calling.
