Four BASIC RULES OF BIBLE INTERPRETATION
1. CONSIDER THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
WHO is
being spoken to, and why?
What did
it mean to them?
2.
Define the key words
Remember: CONTEXT AFFECTS THE MEANING OF WORDS
3. Interpret unclear verses with clear ones!
Look at the verses surrounding it.
4. Look for the most obvious meaning.
The Purpose of God’s Word” to
reveal, not conceal!
Don’t try to force a meaning. Let it speak for itself.
Applying
these four rules can open up a new understanding for you when you study
Scripture.
